I started Healthspan Fitness in 2023, after working for 25 years in financial markets and investments. I loved my previous career and did not move away from that. Rather I moved towards what I do at Healthspan Fitness as my focus.
During my financial career, I only worked at firms where I myself invested heavily in the products being sold. I strongly believe you should only promote something that you find to be of outstanding benefit and that you use yourself. And that is why I started Healthspan Fitness. I have been using these training methods myself for seven years now, and It is emphatically the best thing I have ever done for my health and fitness. And so I decided to spend my time bringing this to other people.
I have always been active in sports and fitness, including martial arts, football, snow sports and swimming for most of my life. To the martial arts side, I have added boxing for the last 12 years. While many of these activities are extremely demanding in terms of breathing, I had never specifically focused on training my breathing in isolation. Likewise, while I had experienced extreme cold before, I had never thought to specifically train in cold exposure to enhance my performance or health.
But in 2017 I found the Wim Hof Method, coming from the angle of improving endurance and sports performance. The impact it had was incredible and I became a dedicated practitioner. But while my motivation was initially sports performance, I noticed many other benefits outside of this area. These included remedying existing physical ailments, a stronger immune system, as well as the benefits WHM brings in terms of managing stress, harnessing focus, and fostering composure and inner peace.
After personally experiencing benefits way beyond my expectations for several years, I decided to became a certified Wim Hof Method instructor, which I completed in early 2022. The following year I began training in another breathing focused method called Oxygen Advantage, in which I became a certified instructor in 2023. These two methods have some areas of cross-over, but they also have different areas of focus and I believe are highly complementary.
All of the areas we offer training in involve creating physical and mental adaptation, to make us healthier, stronger, fitter and happier. Each contributes to "making normal easier", and "making the incredible possible". My goal is to bring these benefits to as many people as possible - whether in sports performance, physical health, or mental clarity and peace.
